Hang me, pleads murderer
A CONVICTED murderer saved from the gallows by the Governor – today pleaded with a judge to hang him when he appeared in court to face another murder charge.
The dramatic death plea came before a jury was even selected for the new murder trial.
"Please sentence me to death - I am already serving a 30- year jail term." the accused, Lam Po, 29. pleaded with Supreme Court judge, Mr Justice James Trainor.
But his pleas were refused by the judge.
Lam. a Stanley Prison inmate, faced a charge of stabbing to death another inmate on November 28 in a revenge attack.
He refused legal representation although he was continuously told that he was titled to a lawyer.
In an unusual move Justice Trainor asked all seven members of the jury to stand up one by one and asked Lam if he objected to any one of them.
Lam replied: "I don't know." Lam was convicted of murder and arson last year following a death blaze in Central which killed II people.
He was sentenced to death following a lengthy trial but was saved from the hangman's noose by the Governor who ordered that he be jailed for 30 years instead.
The latest murder charge came when Lam was involved in a fight inside Stanley prison where another inmate - Lee Pui- kuen
was killed.
Lam today denied the charge.
A prison hospital doctor will testify that Lee died of shock and haemorrhage. Crown Counsel Anthony. Duckett told the court today.
