Fight Crime Campaign
During the week under review, 22 editorials have commented on the coming Fight Violent Crime Campaign and the new anti-crime bills gazetted last Friday.

(A) Fight Violent Crime Campaign
The
All the papers welcomed and pledged full support to the campaign. They said that it shows the Government gave heed to public opinion. majority of them have much confidence in the campaign because they are given the impression that the Government is very "serious" about it and is "determined" to wipe out crime in Hong Kong. Therefore, they urged the public to support it.
The only paper which was skeptical about the achievement of this campaign in Hong Kong Evening News (communist).
The number of crimes will not be reduced so long as the unhealthy development of this society remains unchanged", it maintained.
Suggestions and comments:
16 Besides publicizing the campaign, the authorities should encourage and
reward those who help combat crime and give them effective protection or even set up a mass security service system. (Tin Tin Yat Po 14.5.73).

The name for the Fight Violent Crime Campaign is not appropriate. is better to use the word "reduce" so that people will not expect too much from the campaign. (Hong Kong Times 14.5.73).

(B) Anti-crime Bills
A number of papers commented on the new bills introduced by the Government. They were all in favour and hence disagreed entirely with the
Bar Association.
