Your letter does contain a suggestion which I will take up with John Oliver, i.e. that we might be in a better position if we gave contract magistrates security until they are 55. One difficulty is that quite a few magistrates come here just for the three years and have no intention of staying longer. This particularly applies to those coming from Australia but, of course, that does not invalidate your helpful suggestion.
