A BILL

To

Amond the Magistrates Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice

and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.

Short title.

Addition of

new section 5A.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Magistrates

(Amendment) Ordinance 1973.

2. The principal Ordinance is amended by inserting the

following new section immediately after section 5 -

"Appointment

5A. (1) The Chief Justice may, by notice magistrates. in the Gazette, appoint any permanent magistrate

of principal

to be a principal magistrate.

(2) A principal magistrate shall exercise

the same powers and perform the same duties as

are conferred or imposed by this Ordinance or by

any other law on a permanent magistrate, in

addition to such powers or duties as may be

conferred or imposed thereby on a principal

magistrate.".

Repeal of bection 44.

3.

Section 44 of the principal Ordinance is repealed.

Repeal of Section 57.

4.

Section 57 of the principal Ordinance is repealed.
