Thank you for your letter of 8 October about the idea that there should be informal meetings in London to discuss matters of common interest and concern in the commercial relations field. On taking over from Eric Norris with effect from 17 September I have just given up responsibility for the internal affairs of Hong Kong, which has passed to Teddy Youde who takes over as Assistant Under Secretary of State with my old responsibilities.
I have shown him your letter. He in turn has had a word with Roy Denman, par-- ticularly about the idea that there should be a meeting early in December when you come for the Geneva Session on textiles. Both agreed that this looks a useful point at which to have discussions and the Department will pursue the idea further with the DTI. Teddy Youde, who has just left for Australia and New Zealand for two weeks, has asked me to say that he will have another look at this when he gets back at the beginning of November, although you may well have heard further from Roy Denman or Andrew Stuart by then.
