And now in Nigeria the Bank of which I have the honour to

be the Chairman has a number of valued Chinese clients

who have come to Nigeria from Hong Kong. They have brought to that splendid country to its great benefit the gifts of enterprise, organisation and hard work that lie behind

the achievements which like I suppose every newcomer to

Hong Kong

expected.

I have found even more remarkable than I had

So I am especially glad to have this opportunity to visit

Hong Kong and especially grateful to the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry for giving it to me.

Mr. President, the London Chamber is sometimes thought of as the Chamber of the City of London and of course our links with the City are very close : but we are equally the main Chamber of the Greater London area and we are

proud too to draw members from all over Britain. We act in fact as a bridge between the City and industry, which are almost equally represented among our nearly 10,000

members. We are delighted to have in our present Mission six colleagues who come from as far afield as Lancashire and

Yorkshire. Naturally enough we are much the largest Chamber

in Britain : and equally naturally we are taking a leading part in the very important efforts now in progress to give the British Chamber of Commerce movement more effective

representation at national level.

Very broadly the London Chamber has supported British

membership of the EEC : and seeing what has happened to British trade with the Six during 1973 I would be surprised if many of our members who are directly concerned with it

have changed their minds
