HONG KONG - PRESS INQUIRIES

This is to record our conversation.

The Press Office have had

three inquiries asking whether the Treasury can confirm that Mr Haddon-Cave is in London to discuss the Hong Kong sterling

agreement.

We decided that the Press Office should be advised to answer inquiries on the following lines

"The sterling agreements expire in September and the Government will be discussing the future of the agreements with the countries concerned. We can confirm that Mr Haddon-Cave is in London to talk to the Treasury about the sterling agreement as it affects Hong Kong".
