It is evident from the Governor's speech last
week that development plans for education, housing
social welfare, recreation and other amenities in
Hong Kong are going ahead at a commendable rate. I
have visited Hong Kong many times in the past and
over the last ten years I have seen it grow in
stature tremendously. It has now developed into a
great centre of industry, trade, communications,
finance and tourism. And at the same time, the
living conditions and standards of the people of
Hong Kong have markedly improved. We are living
