Report on Visit to the New Territories by

Mr. Bob Parry, M.P. (Labour)

You are probably aware that Mr. Bob Parry, M. P. from Liverpool came to Hong Kong on a private visit for a month from 11th September, 1973 to 10th October, 1973. I believe that his visit was sponsored by a number of N.T. persons both in England and Hong Kong and was to a great extent the result of the recent lleùng Yee Kuk visit to the U.K. Mr. Parry is reported to be friendly with many of the Chinesc constituents in Liverpool, particularly Mr. LEE Fat-ying (1), originally from Tap Mun, who is the licensee of a club in Liverpool and Mr. LAI Fu-yuen (R) 富源) originally from Pat Heung. Mr. Stephen WONG Yuen-chcung was introduced to Mr. Parry when the Kuk delegation was in Liverpool and an invitation was extended to Mr. Parry to pay a visit to Hong Kong. Stephen Wong, as usual, ran into financial difficulties on Mr. Parry's arrival in the Colony and Mr. CIIAN Yat-san was approached. CHAN was only too glad to be involved so that he could capitalise on Mr. Parry's visit in his dealing with Government over land issues in the New Territorics.

Mr. Parry was taken to the following places where he had on the spot discussions with/Rural Committee Chairmen concerned over a wide range of subjects :

2.

(a) Sha Tau Kok

the main issue being the Closed Area.

(b)

Tap Mun

(c)

Sha Tin

where Mr. Parry called on the mother of LEE Fat-ying. The question of water and electricity supplies was discussed.

no central theme but mainly on land re- sumption and issues connected with the Layout Plan.
