ORGAN FUND PROJECT: THE CHINESE UNIVERSITY

1.

Politiced

The Prime Minister's Private Office asked if

we had any objection to the Prime Minister writing

a letter of encouragement to the Hong Kong Arts

Festival Society in support of their efforts to

raise money for the installation of a new pipe

organ at the Chinese University.

2. We have consulted the Governor, Hong Kong,

who has advised us that he can see no objection

to such a letter being sent. He reports that "the

scheme seems to be soundly based, should strengthen

music teaching in Hong Kong and seems generally

worthwhile".

3.

Accordingly I attach a suggested draft reply

to the Prime Minister's Office. Mr

M. Gratton has

agreed that

there

no need for

t

provide a draft of the Prime Minstar's own

letter.
