Dear Denis,

I said I would let you have a note of the detailed travel arrangements for my wife and myself on our visit to China and Australia in September. Here is the programme which we have provisionally drawn up:

August 30 Thursday

August 31 Friday

Leave Paris Orly

Flight No. AF 178

18.05

Stay night in Shanghai

Sept. 1 Saturday

Wodnenday

arrive

By train to Pekin. Arrive Pekin either on

the evening of September 2, or the morning of September 3.

Stay in Pekin 3 or 4 days.

The itinerary for which we have asked the

Chinese Government, but to which we have not yet received their agreement, and have indeed been told that we will not be able to know definitely until we arrive in Pekin, is as follows:

Hsi-An (possibly by train) and stay there, perhaps

with a side trip to

Yenan, which is of some recent historical interest

From Hsi-An we would like to go to

Chung King and stay there for a day or two. Then

proceed down the Yangtse, if possible by boat through the gorges to

Wuhan, doing a trip from there to Mao's birthplace

Chang Sha.

From there to

Canton and out to

Hong Kong some time during the day
