VISIT BY LABOUR PARTY DELEGATION TO NORTH 23-I AND SOUTH VIETNAM
1. I spoke to Mr. McNally, the Overseas Secretary of the Labour Party, about this today.
2. Mr. McNally said that the Delegation would consist of Mr. Callaghan, Mr. Mikardo and himself, and the visit would take place from 7 to 27 February. The party would travel via Hong Kong to Saigon and Hanoi and intended to return via Peking and Moscow, spending twenty-four hours in each of the latter two capitals. Mr. McNally had heard from the South and North Vietnamese and from the Soviet authorities that they would receive the Delegation, but had not yet nearu from the Chinese. He would be writing to the Secretary of State on 15 January to acquaint the Foreign and Commonwealth Office formally with the Delegation's plans.
