Biography:
Winston S. Churchill was born in October 1940, the son of the late Randolph Churchill and the Hon. Pamela Digby.
He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford.
He is married to Minnie d'Erlanger, and they have one son
and two daughters; Randolph, Jennie and Marina.
Until entering Parliament in June 1970 as Member of Parliament. for Stretford, Lancs. Mr. Churchill worked as war correspondent and author reporting from Aden, Yemen, Congo, Borneo, Vietnam, the Middle East War 1967 and Czechoslovakia.
; During 1969 1970 he was correspondent for the Times reporting from Biafra, Nigeria, the Middle East.and Persian Gulf.
He has written two books: 'First Journey', an account of experiences in Africa and the Middle East and a best seller about the Arab-Israeli War of 1967 entitled 'The Six Day War'.
For more than a year Mr. Churchill presented the B.B.C. Current Affairs programme 'This Time of Day'. In 1965, 1967 and 1971, with his wife Minnie, he made coast to coast lecture tours of the United States on 'African and European politics', 'The Soviet Threat and the Middle East Crisis'.
He assisted Mr. Edward Heath in the 1964 General Election campaign, and unsuccessfully .contested the Gorton Division of Manchester in a by-election of 1967 when he was defeated by only 577 votes.
In January 1970 Mr. Churchill was adopted as prospective candidate for Stretford, Lancs. and during the Conservative victory in the General Election in June of that year he won the seat from Labour by a majority of over 4,000 votes.
