Biography:

Tom KING, E.P. (Bridewate

Tom King was born in 1933.

was educated at Rugby and Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

Juring his national service he was commissioned in the Somerset Light Infantry. He was seconded to the King's African Rifles ard at the age of 19 was an acting Captain commanding a Company on active service against the Mau Mau.

While at University Mr. King led an Oxford and Cambridge over- land expedition to East Africa. After their vehicle burnt out in the Cameroons he, and a companion, hitchhiked 2,000 miles to Kenya.

After University Mr. King joined E. S. and A. Robinson Itd., of Pristol, and eventually became the youngest general manager in the group at the age of 29. At the time of his adoption for 3ridgwater, when he resigned from the group, he was general manager of three divisions.

Mr. King has specialised knowledge of industrial marketing and labour relations. He speaks three languages and is a keen

all-round sportsman.

He won Bridgwater at a by-election in March 1970 and was re-elected at the General Election. Following the Conservative Election victory he was appointed P.P.S. to Mr. Christopher Chataway, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.
