DENYS TUDOR EMIL ROBERTS, OBE.

Mr. Roberts was born on 19 January 1923. He is married

and has two children.

He was educated at Aldenham School and Wadham College, Oxford, where he obtained a BA (Hons) Cl. II in Juris- prudence. He was called to the Bar in 1950.

From 1943-46 he served with the Royal Artillery, finally in the rank of Captain.

From 1950-53 he was practising as a Barrister in

Chambers.

From 1953-60 he was Crown Counsel in Nyasaland and from 1960-62 Attorney General in Gibraltar. From 1962-66 he

served as Solicitor General in Hong Kong, and after two months attachment to the Legal Department of the Colonial Office, returned to Hong Kong as Attorney General, a post which he

still holds.

Reports on Mr. Roberts' service in Nyasaland, Gibraltar and Hong Kong are all excellent. He is said to be a most all and painstaking officer with excellent professional and administrative ability, shrewd political sense, a penetratin mind and the ability to see all points of view in a difficu situation. On the personal side he is reputed to possess a well-developed sense of humour, to be a likeable colleague and to enjoy popularity with all who have dealings with him. In the 1971 report Sir Hugh Norman-Walker, with the concurrence of Sir David Trench, stated that "he is in my view entirely suited to any high office to which he may

aspire."
