The new hospital at Lai Chi Kok is now nearing completion and we would like to start referring to it as the Princess Margaret Hospital in accordance with the original request which was made by Sir David Trench in his despatch No. 784 dated 28th May 1968.
Last year, when arrangements were being made for H.R.H. The Princess Anne to lay the foundation stone, we were in some doubt as to whether it would still be

Princess Margaret. Your telegram No. 707 dated 22nd September 1971 said, however, that The Queen considered the hospital should be named after Princess Margaret as already proposed.
I should be grateful if you could confirm that on the strength of this telegram we are right in thinking that we have The Queen's formal approval for the name. If, however, you consider that further steps are necessary to obtain such approval, perhaps you can be kind enough to arrange for them to be taken.
