ANNEX TO XCR(72)243

To

Amend the Merchant Shipping (Recruiting of Seamen) Ordinance.

Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the

advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof.

Short title.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Merchant

Shipping (Recruiting of Seamen) (Amendment) Ordinance 1972.

Amendment of

section 2. (Cap. 135.)

2. Section 2 of the principal Ordinance is amended

in subsection (1) by deleting the definition of "seaman"

and substituting the following

""seaman" means any person who is, or is to be,

engaged for or employed in service at sea

in a ship in any capacity other than

(Cap. 281.)

(a)

that of master;

(b)

that of mate or engineer, duly certi-

(c)

ficated for the purposes of the

Merchant Shipping Ordinance; and

that which the Authority may, after

consultation with the Advisory Board

and subject to such conditions as he

thinks fit, specify in writing to the

Superintendent;".
