Safegurads against any possible abuse of these powers by an
Immigration Officer are already provided for in the principal Ordinance.
"Furthermore, administrative arrangements can be made by the
Director of Immigration to ensure that cases in which it is considered
necessary to refuse extensions of stay or changes in conditions of stay
will be referred to a senior level within the department for decision,"
he said.
CEMETERY BEING EXPANDED
********
The Wo Hop Shek Cemetery near Fan Ling is again being expanded
to provide 6,000 additional urn burial spaces.
It will involve the excavation of about 25,000 yards of earth to
form terraces as well as the provision of retaining walls, drains, turfing
and other ancillary works.
The work is expected to begin in September, and take about six
months to complete.
The additional urn burial spaces are required because of the number
of human remains which have to be exhumed every year.
A spokesman for the Urban Services Department said today that a body
had to be exhumed at the end of a six-year cycle, and then re-buried in urn
spaces.
