A United Kingdom citizen (other than a resident United Kingdom
belonger) will have a limitation of stay imposed on his arrival in Hong
Kong if he -
(1) holds a United Kingdom passport issued in the United
Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland (including
the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) provided that
the document is not endorsed to the effect that issue was
made on behalf of some other territory; or
(2) was born, adopted, naturalised, or registered as a British
Subject in the United Kingdom and has not renounced his
British nationality.
Visas Not Required
Visas will not be required by such a United Kingdom citizen for
entry or re-entry into Hong Kong, whether he is a new arrival or a resident
of the Colony.
The general effect of this change is that, apart from having a
time limit imposed on his length of stay in the Colony, a United Kingdom
citizen as defined above will be processed for entry into Hong Kong much
as he was before the new controls are introduced.
Having entered the Colony, however, a United Kingdom citizen who
wishes to work, study, take up residence or start a business will have to
seek permission to do so from the Director of Immigration. It will not be
necessary to apply for permission prior to entering Hong Kong.
