The school-children also organise exhibitions on a variety of

topics connected with health. The best of these are chosen during visits to

the schools taking part, and these are put on display in the City Hall, for the

benefit- and, we hope the education of the public.

Work among Adults

Our activities are by no means confined to the education of school-

children. We also hold public displays at the C..A. Exhibition, and those of

you who visited the recent Exhibition of the Department of Agriculture and

Fisheries at Aberdeen, may have noticed that we had a display, educating the

boat people on keeping the harbour clean.

We also hold courses for adult food handlers in restaurants, for the

managements of multi-storey buildings, and for cadets of the Red Cross and St.

John Ambulance Brigade. Many restaurant-keepers display our certificates showing

that they have taken the course.

Perhaps I should emphasise at this point that our powers are only

educational. We have no jurisdiction in this Committee to take action against

any persons who reject the rules of hygiene: such action is the responsibility

of the Health Inspectors of the Urban Services Department, and with this side

of our work our larger committee, the Environmental Hygiene Select Committee,

will be concerned. When these two committees unite, it is hoped that their

united efforts will be more effective.
