PRESS RELEASE

THIS IS THE TEXT OF A TALK GIV N

BY MRS. ELSIE ELLIOTT, IN SUPPORT OF THE CURRENT ELECTORAL

REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN, TO THE Y'S MEN'S CLUB OF HONG KONG.

April 6, 1972.

10

As you know, this talk is given in connection with the Colony-wide

Campaign for the Registration of Electors for the Urban Council Elections, to

take place next year and the two succeeding two year periods.

Re-registration of previously registered voters has already begun,

and this will be followed by the greater drive to persuade others not yet

registered but eligible to do so, to come forward and show an interest in civic

affairs in this way.

You are probably familiar with the various fields in which the Urban

Council at present has jurisdiction: public housing, Recreation and Amenities,

Cultural Services, Public Health and Hygiene, and licensing of hawkers and

restaurants.
