MISSING ELECTORS URGED

To Re-register

People on the current roll of Urban Council electors who have

so far failed to re-register were urged today to do so without further

delay.

Notices of the second sexennial inquiry were sent out by registered

post more than two months ago to 37,360 people entitled to re-register.

Of these notices, 2,527 were undeliverable.

The number of returns received so far totals 22,812, which

leaves a figure of 12,021 outstanding.

The Commissioner of Registration, Mr. J.V.G. Mitchell, commented:

"We are most anxious that these 'missing electors' should take immediate

steps to send in their replies to the sexennial notices of inquiry.

"If they fail to do so they will forego their right to be included

in the new electoral roll, thereby losing the opportunity to vote in the

next Urban Council elections."

He added that the re-registration of electors is carried out at

least once every six years to ensure that the electoral roll is kept

up-to-date.
