"The area within which the Urban Council operates should be divided
into a number of electoral districts" Mr. Lo said. "In future each elected
member should represent his own district. In this way he will get to know
his people and be able properly to convey their wishes to the Government."
SIR Y.K. KAN GIVES VOTE OF THANKS
The Honourable Sir Yuet-keung Kan, senior Unofficial Member of the Legislative Council, today thanked the Unofficial Members of the group hended by the Hon. P.C. Woo for the many painstaking hours they spent in studying
the White Paper on the Urban Council and their exchange of views with Urban Councillors.
As a result of those discussions they have been able to present to Government today what should be the general view not only of members of this Council, with perhaps the exception of the Honourable Mr. LO, but also
the views of the Urban Council.
He hoped that on future occasions when matters of the importance of the White Paper was brought up the Unofficial Members of the Council could perform a similar useful and valuable contribution.
Earlier five Unofficial Members the Hon. P.C. Woo, the Hon, Wilfred Wong, the Hon Ellen Li, the Hon Wilson Wang and the Hon. K.S. Lo gave their views in the Council on the White Paper.
Note to Editors:
Copies of the full text of the speeches of the five Unofficial hembers who spoke today are distributed separately in the G.I.S. Press boxes this evening.
