Public Service whose claims to the vacant post should

properly be considered as superior to those of Jackson-

Laged 58, J Lipkin. One such person is Mr Justice Trainor serving in

the New Hebrides since 1962, whose earlier career is to be

19,66. found in the Colonial Office List He seems a suitable

candidate and is overdue for move. The fact that he is

58 has some advantages.

mind that Cons, who is only 44, would not ordinarily retire

until 1990.

Jackson-Lipkin at 49 is still young enough to have

longer

residence

quite a few more chances, and with

NOTHING TO BE WRITTEN IN THIS MARGIN

and practice in Hong Kong his claims to a judgeship might be

not only greater, but also he might be a more acceptable

candidate to his colleagues at the Bar.
