Talks are opening in Hong Kong on 8 August about restraints on exports of polyester cottons.
Hong Kong Copyright
2
It now looks as though Hong Kong may be approaching a solution on this long-outstanding and complex issue. The Hong Kong Government have just informed us that they expect to be asking us in the near future to extend the UK Copyright 1956 Act to Hong Kong. They propose, however, to leave the revision of their own copyright ordinance until they have finally sorted out certain related problems concerning Rediffusion.

We have just received the Treasury ruling on the dispute between ourselves and the MOD about who pays for certain works carried out by the army during the 1967 disturbances. This is that as far as the Snake Fence is concerned it would not be unreasonable to share the total cost equally between HMG and the Hong Kong Government, with the UK share resting on MOD Votes. The Treasury have suggested that the MOD should not pursue the Highland Bonnet claim (border works). We have not yet received MOD's reactions to this adjudication. We have referred the Treasury's letter in the first instance to Finance Department.
Visit to the UK by the Governor of Hong Kong

Sir Murray MacLehose arrives in the UK on Saturday 5 August and will fly straight up to Scotland. Mr Laird will meet him at London Airport. A programme has been arranged for Sir Murray's visit to London from 5 to 8 September, before his return to Hong Kong on 9 September. The draft programme is attached.
