TALKS TO BEGIN IN LONDON ON 10 JANUARY 1972

Following is text of announcement to be made here 0900Zhrs:

Financial Secretary, Mr Haddon-Cave, accompanied by

officials from Commerce and Industry Department and members

of Textile Advisory Board leave for Britain tomorrow evening,

Saturday 8 January 1972, for trade talks.

3. In London they will hold discussions with representatives

of British Government on exports of cotton yarns and cotton

woven textiles from Hong Kong to the United Kingdom in 1972.

4. These discussions are a continuation of those held in

early part of December last year when Financial Secretary

went to London following British Government's sudden decision

to continue quotas on cotton in addition to imposition of

tariffs.

Commenting on forthcoming discussions Mr Haddon-Cave

said: "Our main concern will be to seek ways and means of

easing difficult situation which Hong Kong cotton textile

industry is now facing as result of Britain's sudden decision."

will certainly be detailed and I am therefore very pleased

that I shall have available to me in Lond on the advice and
