Mr Ridley referred briefly to his dicussions with the EEC Commission about proposals for a long-term common policy for textiles in Europe and to the fact that the UK paper on this subject, previously given to the Hong Kong Government in confidence, had reached Comitextil. This had not, however, modified our general approach to the problem and our interest which we believed to be shared by Hong Kong, in establishing progress towards free circulation of textiles within the enlarged Community. Mr Ho showed some scepticism about our commonality of interest here but was not prepared to dispute it.
