26 Modern Terminals Ltd
(1) Modern Terminals Ltd was incorporated in
Hong Kong in 1969 to develop and operate a deep-sea
container terminal at Kwai Chung, New Territories
to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding container
trade between Europe and the Far East. Several
major international shipping lines together with a
number of large local companies have invested in the
project and construction is well in hand.
(2) When completed the terminal is estimated to
cost HK$157m (£10.9m); CDC will invest £2m in partly
convertible loan, of which £1m had been drawn down
by 31.12.71.
