You wrote to Tom Bridges on 22 May about the Chancellor of the Duchy's plans to visit Commonwealth countries in Asia and Africa butween 7 September and 8 October. Subject to the reservation entered by the Chief Whip, the Prime Minister is content: but suggests that Mr. Rippon might omit Hong Kong from his itinerary since the Prime Minister himself will be there about a fortnight later.

I am sending copies of this letter to McCormick (Foreign and Commonwealth Office), Moore (Chief Whip's Office) and Robertson (Cabinet Office).

(SGD) C.W. ROBERTS

The Hon. Michael Pakenham,

Office of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lucaster.
