Many thanks for your letter of 5 June about your leave arrangements. You will of course have had FCO telegram No 486 by the time you receive this.

There is no set drill for approving the leave arrangements of Governors. In theory, they cannot leave their territory

1thout The Queen's permission. In practice H's permission is not sought. I think it would be best if in future you were to follow the procedure you have adopted on this occasion. Alternatively, a telegram would be all right.

Nearer the time we shall prepare a programme for your few days in the Office. I shall also arrange to meet you at Heathrow on Sunday 6 August (the airport is only half an hour away from our house) in case there is anything you wish to pass on to me or anything we wish to tell you.
