VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR HONG KONG PASSPORT HOLDERS

GERMANY

We are committed at Ministerial level to approach ing

the Germans to request a relaxation of their visa

requirements for British subjects from Hong Kong.

However, the prospects of success are fairly bleak

because of the large and increasing numbers of illegal immigrants from Hong Kong presently admitted

to Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands under our

visa abolition agreements with those countries, number

of whom are filtering across to Germany.

We await a substantive reply from the Governor on

whether the Hong Kong Government would undertake

to refund direct to the Germans any deportation

expenses incurred by them.
