a major British Industrial Exhibition was held, at

high some 160 British firms were represented, from

23 31 October. On 21 October Princess Alexandra

officially opened the Cross Harbour Tunnel, a major

British achievement which was financed by a £14

million loan from Lloyds Bank backed by ECGD.

The UK also has a Trade Commission in Hong

Kong whose principal function is to assist British

exporters.

Line to Take

If this subject is raised, the Secretary

of State

could say we are well aware of Britain's

declining share of the market, and that the

Exhibition is an important and integral part of a

new promotional effort we are making to reverse

this trend in the face of fierce competition

mainly from Japan and the United States. We hope

in particular that Britain will be successful in

securing the contract for the £500 million Mass

Transit Railway project.
