I am aware that Britain's overall share of the Hong Kong
market is declining (since 1968 it has stagnated at between
9% and 8%). A major British Industrial Exhibition, at which
some 160 British firms are represented, opens today in Hong
Kong and is an important and integral part of a new promotional
effort we are making to reverse this trend in the face of
fierce competition mainly from Japan and the United States.

an underground railway at a probable total cost of £500
million at mid-1972 prices. I hope that a British consortium
will be successful in securing the contract for this project.
