EDUCATION

Primary Education (Not discussed in Hong Kong)

20.

Free primary education was introduced last year in

Government and Government aided schools; and a scheme for

compulsory school attendance in certain ciraumstances has

also been introduced.

Secondary Education (Not discussed in Hong Kong)

21 A total of 73 new secondary schools are in the process

of planning or construction and are intended to be completed

by 1976 as the first stage in an expanded programme of aided

secondary education.

Technical Education (Discussed in Hong Kong)

22. The Hong Kong Government at present provide facilities for 23,000 full-time and part-time technical students. Apart from the construction in addition of a polytechnic, Hong Kong are at present planning to build at least two further technical institutes before 1976. Her Majesty's Government have offered to contribute to the installation of British equipment in each institute.
