I have just been in China and I would not have thought the question of Hong Kong being taken over by a communist regime was a starter. There is no question of Hong Kong being taken over by a communist regime, Hong Kong as you know is a British colony, we are very satisfied by the present status of Hong Kong. As

I said at my press conference when I came back from

Peking in June, so is the Chinese Government.

Could I call up a point on the C.D.O? Some people have said that they would like wider representation, particularly the Legistative Council for a wider cross section of community. Firstly, do you think this is valid critisism? Secondly, if you do, do you think there is a way that representation would be widened,

This, of course, must be a matter entirely for the Governor. The Governor appoints the representatives on to LEGO and Executive Council and I know he is as

anxious as everyone that members of the Executive and Legisative Council should come from wider area of the community as possible. I was delighted to see the appointment of Mrs. Wong on to the Council, announced I think yesterday, and here is a lady who has done a storm of work in the welfare field for many years and this I think indicates the wish of the Governor to draw his candidates for appointment to Legistative Council and Executive Council from a wider area of the population as possible.

The question of capital punishment is a matter for the Governor, not for me.
