CHINESE YOUTH BEHIND THE CURRENT AGITATION
Agitation by young people in Hong Kong is in many ways in the embryonic stage, so that clear-cut motives and objectives are not readily discernible. Nevertheless it appears that so far dissatisfied elements have come from seven not necessarily distinct groups of people, namely:

(c)

staff of certain radical publications, including recent university graduates and returned students;
university undergraduates;
post-secondary college students;
returned students, including those teaching in universities and secondary schools, and holiday students;
(E) secondary school senior students;
F) workers;
(G) school drop-outs and others.
It should be stressed that apart from those in Group (A) only a very small minority are actively involved.

This group is small in number, and possibly not more than 150, but is very influential partly because its members are dedicated and partly because they are behind a number of radical publications which have no obvious Communist or Taiwan affiliations but with which Hong Kong young people can identify themselves. Their criticisms though radical are usually serious but only sometimes are they constructive. These publications are a new feature on the Hong Kong scene and include periodicals such as the "70's Bi-weekly", the "Intellectual Monthly", the "Seventies" (Monthly), the "Pan Ku Magazine", the "Apollo Magazine" and the "Workers' Weekly".
