The Executive Council consists of 8 Nominated

Unofficial and 6 Official Members and the Legislative

there are

Council of 12 Official and 13 Nominated Unofficial

Members, But, the Governor, as President, has an

original and a casting vote, thus maintaining an

official majority.

3. The appointment of all Unofficial Members expired at the end of 1971 shortly after the new Governor hast

assumed administration of the Colony. Sir Murray

MacLehose extended all the then existing appointments

for a further period of 6 months, with effect from

1 January 1972, in order to give himself time to assess

the situation before recommending substantive appoint-

ments for a longer period. We are expecting to receive

a Despatch from the Governor shortly sending his

recommendations for substantive appointments when the

current appointments of Unofficial Members expire at

the end of June.
