,

I had a further word with the Secretary of State to amplify his minute of 25 October on your submission of 18 October. To summarise his decision, he would like us to plan now for a visit to Ghana and Nigeria, provisionally on the dates suggested (21-27 January); he would attend the Queen during her State Visit to Thailand, leaving London on 8 February and with The Queen's permission, leaving the party on 13 February when The Queen moves from Bangkok to Chiengmai; from Bangkok he would go to Hong Kong (say for 14/15 February); from Hong Kong to Japan (16/17 February), returning, perhaps over the Pole, overnight 17/18 February. would postpone the visit to Madrid to Monday and Tuesday 28 and 29 February or to the Friday and Saturday at the end of that week (3/4 March).
