A lot can of course be said in favour of the U.K. or Hong Kong Authorities' stringent requirements above-mentioned as it ensures not only the ships' safety, efficient operation and crew's job satisfaction but I believe most owners are agreed that if the Authorities could see their way clear to relaxing their insistence on every item being of British origin or British approved and accepting instead its equivalent approved by other origin in so far as the safety factor is not seriously affected, there is a good possibility that the owners' attitude could be swung around to the British flag.
As I mentioned to Mr. Anthony Royle while I was in London recently, it will give me much pleasure and indeed honour to transfer a portion of our growing fleet to British registration if circumstances could be made a little more favourable for us to do so. Also, as an unprecedented number of new ships are due to be delivered by Japanese shipyards in the next two years to Hong Kong based owners I firmly believe that it should be in Government's interest to win over part of this tonnage to Hong Kong registration by giving some serious consideration to a modification of the present rules.
With kindest regards,
Yours sincerely,
