The Liaison Section of the London Office is mostly concerned with assistance and advice to individuals; with helping local authorities and others in their dealings with the Chinese community; with expanding contacts in the Chinese community and encouraging the development of local associations; with encouraging self-help in the community where possible. The Section also co-operates closely with the Information Section in developing information and entertainment services to meet some of the needs of the Chinese community.

At present, these comprise a weekly news paper in Chinese published in Hong Kong and distributed widely throughout Britain and Europe: a library of Cantonese films which are shown to growing audiences in restaurants and hired halls around the country: a library of English lessons on gramophone records for which there has been a strong demand and various other services.

The aim of these services is to keep the Chinese population properly informed of developments in Hong Kong; to encourage loyalty to Hong Kong and counteract communist activities and to promote the welfare of Hong Kong people in Britain..

Note: The historical material in para. 3 is drawn from the book "The Chinese in London" by NG Kwee-Choo published by Oxford University Press for the Institute of Race Relations.
