HONG KONG IMMIGRATION ORDINANCE 1971

We have now received a copy of the Hong Kong Ordinance with the Acting Governor's despatch No 791.

1.

2. Mr Gaminara has raised the point referred to in his draft telegram below. Before authorising this

In for despatch I should be glad of your views. particular, I suspect that the definition of "United Kingdom belonger" in the Hong Kong Ordinance is not the same as the definition of United Kingdom "patrial" in our legislation. You will remember that you sent me a copy of the UK Bill (as amended in Committee) together with the amendments to Clause 2 to be moved by Lord Windlesham in the Report Stage in the Lords. I sent those documents off to Hong Kong as soon as I received them as time was short. We have not therefore got a copy of the UK legislation in its final form. Will it matter from your point of view if the Hong Kong definition is not the same as ours?
