While both removal and deportation involve the enforced. departure of the person concerned, removal is the less drasti sanction. As far as United Kingdom practice is concerned I' think the essential difference is that removal does not necessarily mean either that the person removed is undesirable or that he may not return. For example, an alien wishing to take employment in the United Kingdom would, if he arrived without a work permit, be refused leave to land and removed. If this were the sole reason for his removal, however, he would be allowed to land if he later returned with a work permit. A deportation order on the other hand is made only against a person who is for some reason undesirable and he may not return to the United Kingdom while the order remains in force.
