RECOMMENDATION

5.

Protocol and Conference Department have been in touch with

the Palace and The Queen is sending a personal message in the

following terms

"I have been distressed to learn of the death and

destruction caused in Hong Kong by the typhoon. Please

convey my deepest sympathy to the bereaved and to all

those who have suffered injury or loss in this tragic

event".

6. I recommend that the message attached be sent by the

Secretary of State.

7. I also recommend that my reply to Mr Rounthwaite should

be on the lines of the draft attached.
