bucharest, august 22 (hsinhua) romanian workers of the well-known brasov works "steagul rosu" and the "tractorul" works have recently turned out the first batch of large 12-ton diesel Lorries and successfully trial-produced a new model of 55 horse-power tractors as presents for the 27th anniversary of the liberation of the motherland, according to press reports here.

082326 record u.s. balance of payments deficit
peking, august 23 (hsinhua) the u.s. balance of payments has deteriorated drastically in the second quarter of this year as a result of the policy of aggression persisted in by the u.s. ruling circles and the deepening financial and economic crises in the united states, according to a report from washington.
figures released by the u.s. commerce department show that the "official balance" over the second quarter of this year has registered a record 5,766 million dollar deficit, or 238 million dollars more than the first quarter's, whereas the "net liquidity balance" showed a deficit of 5,848 million dollars, also a record high and 3,300 million dollars more than the first quarter's.
an ap report said that if the balance of payments shows as poor a performance for the second half of the year as it did for the first half, the official deficit would be 22.6 billion dollars for the year, more than two and a half times the 1970 deficit, and the net liquidity deficit would be 16.7 billion dollars, more than four times the 1970 deficit.
the heavy deficit in the u.s. balance of payments was mainly caused by the unprecedented expenditure in the u.s. imperialist aggression and expansion abroad. at the same time, the daily aggravating financial and economic crises in the united states have brought about a heavy outflow of u.s. capital and a steady decline in foreign trade which showed an 803 million dollar deficit in the second quarter of this year. all these factors culminated in a drastic deterioration in the u.s. balance of payments.
this shows the extreme seriousness of the u.s. financial and economic crises and the waning hegemony of u.s. imperialism in the capitalist world. end item
