at about five o'clock in the afternoon, samdech and madame sihanouk alighted from the train amid warm cheers and the beating of drums and cymbals. in a ceremonial welcome
at the station, the band played the national anthems of the kingdom of cambodia and china. samdech and madame sinanouk, in the company of chinese Leaders, reviewed a guard of honour composed of members of the chinese p.l.a. ground, naval and air forces, militiamen and red guards, and met the welcoming crowds. in a moving scene, the station resounded with cheers of "a warm welcome to samdech sinanouk exclamation", "Long Live chairman mao exclamation" and "Long Live samdech sinanouk exclamation" cherishing profound feelings for the fighting cambodian people, the welcomers warmly congratulated the peoples of cambodia, viet nam and Laos on the great victories they have won in their war against u.s. aggression and for national salvation and pledged firm support to the peoples of the three indochinese countries in their war against u.s. aggression and for national salvation. exuberant young people performed dances of welcome as a tribute to samdech and madame sihanouk and other distinguished cambodian guests.
