I have been seeking an increase in the annual defence contribution

for Hong Kong from the current figure of £5m to £8.5m over the

year

5 years 1971/72 to 1975/76 which would broadly restore Hong Kong's

share of cost of the garrison to what it was in the fie

of the previous agreement.
