HONG KONG DEFENCE CONTRIBUTION

1. As a result of the decision of the Defence and Oversea

Policy Committee we drafted a telegram sticking closely to

the record of the discussion. We sent this to the Treasury

and the MOD for comments and then received Treasury views

as in Mr Brack's letter to Mr Gaminara of 27 July.

2.

After further discussion with both the Treasury and the

OD the attached draft has now been agreed by all concerned.

I hope we shall be able to get it away kter today.
