EXECUTIVE COUNCIL DECISION of 14.12.71

The Council considered memorandum XCC(71)73.

Members discussed the matter generally, but with particular reference to the reactions of the Textiles Advisory Board, and agreed that the Financial Secretary had achieved what he had been instructed to do, namely to arrange a further meeting with Her Majesty's Government in January to discuss in detail how the effects on Hong Kong of Her Majesty's Government's new policy with regard to cotton textiles could be ameliorated. The Textiles Advisory Board would be invited to accompany officials to that meeting. The point was stressed that the Hong Kong Government only had a few days prior notice of Her Majesty's Government's intentions and the Textiles Advisory Board was informed in confidence of Her Majesty's Government's decision as soon as it was known. The Financial Secretary informed Members that he would be explaining the situation to the Textiles Advisory Board that afternoon.
