Thank you for your letter of 13 December about the telegram of 7 December from the various textile and garment associations in Hong Kong.
2. I have discussed this with Michael Laird and we think that a reply should be sent to the telegram as soon as possible explaining that it arrived during our talks with a delegation from Hong Kong; that, as the associations now know, it has been agreed that further talks should be held in the week beginning 10 January 1972; and that during those further talks the Minister for Trade will of course have Hong Kong's interests as a major supplier of cotton textiles to the British market very much in mind.
3. The reply could go in either the CREDA series (to the British Senior Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong, with a copy to the Governor) or alternatively we could send it through our channels; would you let me know what you decide?
Jauns sincerely,
John
