I write to confirm the telephone message which I passed to you, and which I believe the Chief Secretary has subsequently discussed with Mr Royle. Treasury Ministers regret that they are still unable to introduce into the Finance Bill at Committee Stage a New Clause on relief from import duty on Commonwealth cotton textiles. They will, however, do their best to fit a Clause in on Report.
I am copying this letter to the Private Secretary to the Minister for Trade.
